Garmin eTrex Summit HC Review
(May 18, 2009 from Portable GPS Reviews, reviewing the latest GPS systems.)
The Garmin eTrex Summit HC is very popular among outdoor
enthusiasts, and it's no wonder. The highly sensitive GPS receiver on
the Summit HC offers peak performance in all types of environments and
this unit comes with 24 megabytes of internal memory, a detailed
basemap, a crisp color screen as well as an altimeter and an electronic
compass.
The WAAS-enabled receiver locates your position quicly and very
precisely and can maintain its GPS location even in heavy tree cover
and deep in canyons. So whether you are in the woods or in a city with
tall buildings, the Garmin eTrex Summit HC helps you find your way.
The electronic compass that is built into the Summit HC gives you
bearing info even when you are standing still and the barometric
altimeter tracks barometric pressure changes so you will know your
exact altitude. You can even use the altimeter to keep an eye on the
changing weather.
The Summit HC's basemap contains rivers, lakes, interstates, cities, state and national highways and coastlines.
You can use the included MapSource Trip and Waypoint Manager
software to add map details from Garmin's optional MapSource products.
You can save 500 waypoints, 50 routes and 10 saved tracks on the
Summit HD. Besides appreciating its small size, outdoorsmen and boaters
love the unique button layout. All of the buttons are on either side of
this unit, so you can operate it with just one hand. There are just
five buttons in total on the Summit HD-Page, Up, Down, Enter and Power
and it is totally waterproof so it will survive a dunk in the water. (back to top)
